Named after Chief Patient Advocate and 12-year survivor of stage IV melanoma, Cheryl Stratos, the cheryl app provides cancer patients and their caregivers with expert navigation to help them learn about their diagnosis and advocate for the best care. Expert navigation, educational resources, specialists, and clinical trials, all in the cheryl app.
We know a melanoma diagnosis can be intimidating and overwhelming. The team at cheryl is here to help. Whether you are just starting your cancer journey or ready to explore the latest research options, we can help you find the resources and support needed to navigate the way.
Educating yourself about your melanoma diagnosis and connecting with experts in treating your disease will help you to prepare for what’s next and determine the best treatment approach for you. The cheryl app can help you navigate to the resources you need to make key decisions about your care.
Treating a complex disease like cancer usually requires a team of doctors. Even if you like and trust your current doctor, a melanoma specialist may know about new treatments and other options for you. They can work with your current doctor to develop your treatment plan. The cheryl app can help you find the right expert for you.
1104Health, the creator of the cheryl app, has partnered with the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network to study the effectiveness of providing personalized patient navigation to match patients with melanoma experts and clinical trials. By participating in the study, patients will be able to gain awareness of treatment options to make informed decisions for themselves.
To participate, register for the cheryl app to test the application and complete a feedback survey. Participation is free and all information you provide in the cheryl app will be protected. Please click here to understand more about the risks and benefits of participating in this study.
In 2019, 1104Health founder, Rose Wang, lost her husband, Robert, to melanoma. As the caregiver of a loved one with Stage 4 cancer, Rose and her husband found themselves feeling isolated, lost and confused in a complex sea of medical jargon and processes. They didn’t find a trial Robert was eligible for until the week before he died. Not having access to the right information and tools to determine their best treatment options was a critical factor in the loss of her husband.
With the help of Chief Patient Advocate, Cheryl Stratos, Rose and a team of AI experts have designed the cheryl app to help you become your own Chief Patient Advocate. It allows you to research doctors and institutions from the comfort of your home and determine your next steps. By sharing all aspects of cancer research, treatment, and outcomes, we hope to improve the chances of survivability for people diagnosed with cancer.
The design of this application is a collaborative effort between doctors, patients, and caregivers.
Everyone deserves the chance to find the best treatment possible.

You are being asked to take part in a research study that is evaluating the effectiveness of a new digital patient navigation application called “cheryl” in helping individuals with a diagnosis of melanoma find melanoma specialists who can discuss your diagnosis and possible treatment options (including clinical trials). “cheryl” can also help keep you informed of new research about your diagnosis.
Participation in this study involves using the digital patient navigation application . You will also be asked to respond to a brief survey about your experience with the application. You would be in this research study for up to six months.
If you participate in this study, you will not have to visit the study site for this evaluation, but you should continue your standard of care clinic visits as determined by your doctor.
The main risks are feeling uncomfortable about answering questions and that information may become known to people outside of the study. You may or may not benefit directly from being in the study and there is no payment for participation and no cost to you.
